Upon arrival at La Paz’s airport from your international flight, a private driver will be meeting and driving you to your hotel. Free evening in the city of La Paz, getting a good night rest and adjust to the altitude. Overnight in La Paz.
In the morning, we will depart from La Paz towards the archaeological site of Tiahuanaco, a guided tour of the largest archaeological complex in Bolivia. It is here where we will understand the richness of all pre-Columbian cultures that have disappeared over time. After the visit, we will return to La Paz. Free afternoon and overnight in the city.
In the morning, we will be transferred to the bus station to take a line bus towards Copacabana. At the port, we will board a boat that will takes us to Isla del Sol (Island of the sun) in the famous Titicaca Lake. We will sail until we reach the community of Yumani, where we will be able to enjoy a walk on the shores and a beautiful views of the closest islands and the immense Titicaca lake. If we are lucky, we will be blessed to see the impressive sunset with a view of Lake Titicaca and in the background a part of the Cordillera Real or Real range of mountains. Overnight in a hostel in Yumani.
In the morning, after breakfast, we will descend on foot towards the Fuentes Del Inca (Fountains of the Inca) and get on board a boat that will take us to Pilkoaina Temple or Temple of the sun, a ceremonial place dedicated to the God of the Sun. We will be able to enjoy the panoramic view of the nearby island where the Temple of the moon is located. Return to Copacabana. In the afternoon, we will take the road back in a line bus to La Paz and arrive at night. Overnight in La Paz.
In the morning, we will start the day heading to the airport to take a national flight towards the city of Uyuni. Upon arrival, we will be transferred to the starting point of the adventure towards the Uyuni salt flats. In a 4WD truck we will reach the beautiful salt valley, where we will be able to appreciate the immensity of the considered the biggest salt flats of the world. We will continue our journey and arrive to Incahuasi Island, which is of volcanic origin and has a very peculiar view due to fossilized minerals and cacti. Arrival to San Juan, overnight at the shelter.
We start this day taking a southern route, getting near to the border with Chile, to cross La Ruta de las Joyas (Route of the Jewels), which is a set of four different color lagoons: Cañapa, Hedionda, Ch’arkota Honda and Ramaditas. All of these are sanctuaries to a very specific variety of flamingos. Continuing our route, we will pass at the foot of the Ollague volcano (5,865 m // 19,242 ft.), still active, and the one that houses one of the highest sulfur mines in the world. We will cross beautiful landscapes of the Siloli desert and stop at the famous Arbol de piedra (Tree of stone). At sunset, we will arrive at the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve to enter the Colorada Lagoon, characterized by the different flashes of color reflected by the sun. Next to the lagoon, we will our shelter for the night. Overnight in Huayllajara.
In the morning, we will visit once again the Colorada Lagoon and witness a majestic scene with its spectacular colors populated by thousands of flamingos. The route will take us through the geysers of “Sol de Mañana” (4850 m // 15,912 ft.), characterized for the intense volcanic activity. We will arrive and cross part of the Dalí desert (named like the artist due to the ghostly landscape that reminds one of his paintings). Then, we will pass through the Polques hot springs and have the opportunity to take a bath at its hot waters, enjoy the natural surroundings and have time to relax. We will continue towards La Laguna Verde (The Green Lagoon) and La Laguna Blanca (The White Lagoon), which are located at the foot of the Juriques (5704 m // 18,704) and Licancabur (5960 m // 19,553) volcanoes. We will head back to the Hotel in Uyuni. Overnight.
After breakfast, we start our day departing by bus towards the imperial city of Potosí located at the highlands of Bolivia. This city developed and became famous thanks to the exploitation of silver in the mines of Cerro Rico (“Rich Mountain”), which made it the richest city in America for several centuries. Arrival to the Hotel and in the afternoon we will have a guided tour of the town of Potosí that means “Thunder” in the Quechua language. We will discover this old town part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, its pedestrian streets, the colorful colonial houses, the wooden balconies and the cathedral. We will finish our day visiting La Casa de la Moneda, where the Spaniards minted the crown currency until the 19th century. Overnight in Potosí.
Free morning to explore the city. In the early afternoon, our transportation will take us to the bus station on direction of Sucre, the administrative capital of Bolivia.
Arrival to Sucre and transfer to the Hotel for overnight.
Optional (not included on package): Visit of the mine in Cerro Rico (4800m // 15,748ft.), that is still operative and they still work to withdraw silver, stein and cooper.
After breakfast, we will visit the so-called White City, the administrative capital of Bolivia. We will visit the Casa de la Libertad (House of Liberty), the Jesuit house where the first constitution of Bolivia was signed and the awesome Museum of indigenous art, where we will witness beautiful weavings, clothing and other expressions of art.
Finally we will visit the Casa Glorieta (Glorieta’s house), the place where silver arrived for centuries, and where we will learn a bit more of the history of the mining activity in the city.
Free time to explore the city and overnight in Hotel in Sucre.
After breakfast, we start our journey towards Chataquilla, located at the top of the Cordillera de los Frailes outside of Sucre.
We will stop at a beautiful stone chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Chataquilla and enjoy the view to the city. We will start walking in a very ancient route, called El Camino Inca (Inca Trail) until we arrive to the viewpoint of Maragua, where we will have lunch and see the stunning geological and natural formations of the mountain.
We continue our experience descending to the bottom of the trail and walk along the Ravelo River, passing through colorful landscapes with rock formations, suspended bridges and waterfalls. We will continue until we appreciate the view of the range of mountains and the Maragua crater, one of the most impressive and beautiful landscapes in Bolivia.
At the end of the day, we take refuge in a local house of the community. Overnight in Maragua.
After breakfast, we say goodbye to our hosts of the night and depart south passing through quiets and interesting villages.
We will descend through a scenic valley, passing through waterfalls and hamlets to the Quilla Quilla town, where the famous indigenous rebel leader Tomás Katari was executed.
We will rest and enjoy our lunch before our transportation take us back to Sucre.
