  • Day 2: Amantaní - Taquile - Puno

The next day we will share breakfast and then go to Taquile Island, our trip to get there is 1 hour. Taquile has a lot of history and is recognized by Unesco for its textiles practiced since their ancestors (Incas).

Once in the place you will receive a warm welcome, Taquile is characterized by being very collaborative and organized in all aspects, whether in agriculture, textiles and tourism.

Regarding their textiles, which is what is most striking, they have a process in which both the woman and the man go to fulfill functions and this has been respected since Inca times and today they continue with this tradition and way of weaving.

According to their culture, in this town only the men are in charge of weaving the garments, like the hat, chullo (very characteristic garment of Taquile), chumpi and its garments; and the role of the woman in this case is only to do the spinning and dyeing, this is how the two genders for long years continue with their functions.

Even boys as young as seven years old already weave garments such as chullos; it is said that if you are a boy and you don't weave then you are not considered a boy, so all the local men are dedicated to weaving, agriculture and more.

After learning about them, we will taste a delicious lunch typical of the place and you can voluntarily collaborate by buying some of their handicrafts, since for this community this is a form of sustenance and will continue to prevail for many years to come.

After the tour in Taquile, we will return to the city of Puno.
