The mountain of 7 colors - Vinicunca is located at an elevation of 5200 meters above sea level with a characteristic dry frigid climate, which can present certain variations in temperature depending on the season of the year.
The mountain has a unique coloration that has been formed over thousands of years from ancient bodies of lake water and marine sediments that developed during the Tertiary and Quaternary periods, approximately 65 million years ago. An extensive geological history and changes in the movements of the tectonic plates gave the sediments the alignment in different layers by the size of their grains, which were gradually aligned, forming strips of different types of soil and minerals that once exposed to the environment (product of erosion), developed an oxidation of the minerals that compose them, giving them colors that today are a visual wonder within the Cusco landscape.
