Major Festivals & Events in Peru

Home » Festividades del Perú

Known for its cultural diversity and ancient traditions, Peru celebrates a wide variety of festivals throughout the year that combine history, religion, music, dance, and folk customs. Each region preserves its own unique traditions that reflect the identity of its communities and offer a glimpse into the country’s rich culture.

Among the most iconic celebrations is the Festival of the Virgin of Candelaria, held in Puno and renowned for its colorful dances, traditional costumes, and massive parades. Also noteworthy are the Inti Raymi in Cusco, a ceremony dedicated to the Sun that commemorates the legacy of the Inca Empire, and the traditional Holy Week in Ayacucho, considered one of Peru’s most important religious celebrations.

Peruvian festivals also include celebrations such as the Señor de los Milagros in Lima, the Fiesta de San Juan in the Amazon, and the Carnival of Cajamarca—events that bring together thousands of visitors and local residents. During this time, the streets come alive with music, processions, dances, traditional cuisine, and activities that keep alive the customs passed down from generation to generation.

Taking part in Peru's festivities means discovering a country full of color, faith, and tradition, where each celebration offers a unique experience for getting to know its communities, its cultural heritage, and the diversity that characterizes the different regions of Peru.
