Details of the 4 day Salkantay tour

Throughout this fascinating Salkantay trek, you will walk along ancient trails that the Incas used to walk, revealing secrets of their civilization. Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Laguna Humantay

We leave Cusco at 5:30 am in private transport to reach Soraypampa, on our way we will have beautiful views of the snowy Salkantay, Umantay and pallata, we will be arriving at the village of Mollepata where we will have breakfast. Then we will take our way back to Soraypampa, here we will meet the muleteers and begin the trek through a beautiful valley surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains, such as the Nevado Humantay and the imposing peak of Salkantay,

We will cross different valleys, discovering a little of the life of the local farmers, before arriving at the Humantay lagoon that has beautiful turquoise waters, at the bottom of the lagoon is the imposing mountain of Humantay, after lunch and take pictures and rest, we will have to go down to our first camp in Soray Pampa. Our cook will be waiting for you with hot drinks, snacks and dinner. The first night will be a bit more demanding due to the altitude.

Day 2: Soray Pampa - Paso de Salkantay - Chaullay

Very early, a coca tea in bed, then breakfast and get ready to walk, the first part is flat and gradually begin to climb until we reach the Salkantay pass (4650 m) through a steep and quite rocky trail, our effort will be rewarded with an exceptional view of the snowy Salkantay Peak. This morning will be the most demanding in terms of hiking. Upon reaching the summit we will take time to take pictures and admire the scenery.

We will then descend through a different ecosystem with lush vegetation. We will arrive at Wayracmachay, to take our lunch, then we continue descending until we reach our next campsite in Chaullay and have dinner. Tonight will be warmer than the previous night.

Day 3: Chaullay - Llactapata - Aguas Calientes

In this place we will take a vehicle that will take us to Lucmamabamba (2000 m), where we will begin to walk until we reach the archaeological site of Llactapata, where we will have lunch, then we will begin to descend to the hydroelectric, then our walk will be a little calmer next to the railway, but accompanied by a landscape of Amazon jungle, where we will have to appreciate the coffee plant, banana and avocado, many animals, birds and insects. Until arriving to the town of Aguas Calientes. Overnight at the hotel at the foot of Machu Picchu, in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4: Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco

This day, after breakfast, we head to the bus station and depart for Machu Picchu. We will see the spectacular citadel of Machu Picchu, the "old mountain", considered a jewel of Inca architecture: with neighborhood squares, houses, agricultural areas, roads, observatories, places of worship, etc. built on a narrow ridge lined with cliffs: an impressive spectacle that changes with the progression of the sun. It was discovered on July 24, 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. We will have a 2-hour guided tour, where we will visit the most representative sites of the Inca citadel of Machupicchu. We will walk through the alleys of the citadel, its neighborhoods, its squares, its royal houses, its agricultural areas, its trails and its observatories. After the tour, we return to Aguas Calientes and then we go to the train station to leave for Poroy and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

HUAYNA PICCHU - 55 USD.

Huayna Picchu is the mountain you see in almost every photo. From its 2700 m it offers an impressive view of the citadel. The ascent is quite demanding, it is done by a steep path, it is necessary to be in good physical condition and above all not to be prone to vertigo.

The entrance hours are: 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, and 10 am. Reservations are required and must be purchased at the same time as the entrance to Machu Picchu.

MACHUPICCHU MOUNTAIN - 55 USD.

Less known and frequented than Huayna Picchu, The highest part is at 3082 m and offers a spectacular panorama of the Inca city, but also of the surrounding mountains. To reach it, it takes about 2 hours of climbing, mainly steps, the last stretch is quite steep, but not as steep as the Huayna Picchu.

The entrance hours are: 7 am and 8 am. Reservations are required and must be purchased at the same time as the entrance to Machu Picchu.

  • It is possible to do the guided tour of Machu Picchu first and then the ascent to Huayna Picchu or Machupicchu Mountain.

Huchuypicchu Mountain - 42 USD.

It is the smallest mountain of easy access, only about 10 to 15 minutes walk and when we reach the top we have a good view over Machupicchu.

The entrance hours are: 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 12 am, 13 pm and 14 pm. Reservations are required and must be purchased at the same time as the entrance to Machu Picchu.

Inca Bridge - 42 USD.

A nice walk along an Inca trail that was built in an incredible way, because there are places that one can not imagine how the Incas did to stick a stone to the rock of the mountain, there is a lot of vegetation.

The entrance hours are: 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 12 m, 13 pm and 14 pm. Reservations are required and must be purchased at the same time as the entrance to Machu Picchu.
