Salkantay, Llactapata and Machu picchu 05 days (Grouped service)

This trek combines the cultural and natural attractions of this mountainous region. It is an immersion in another time, that of the Incas, and in another place, that of the great biodiversity of the tropical depths.

Price includes:

  • Private transportation from the Hotel in Cusco to Mollepata (Marcoccasa community)
  • Transportation from the Playa to the village of Santa Teresa (option in case the client wants to spend time at the thermal waters)
  • The train from the Hidroeléctrica station to Aguas Calientes
  • The bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu
  • The tourist train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cusco
  • Hotel with room and private bathroom in the village of Aguas Calientes (Machu picchu, Continental or similar)
  • Entrance to the Salkantay National Park and Machu Picchu
  • Professional bilingual guide (Spanish, English, and French on request)
  • Camping equipment (professional tents, Doite, Model Cima 4, extra liviana / 4kgs, Doite, Model Kailas 3, extra liviana / 4.5kgs and Doite, Model Himalaya, extra liviana / 4.5kgs..., one tent for two people. Ground sheet, mess tent with tables and chairs, tent towel.
    Food during the excursion (Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks / Vegetarian option on request).
  • A cook and an assistant.
  • Muleteers for all camping equipment and personal belongings of the clients (max. 7kg per person)
  • A rescue horse.
  • A first aid kit, oxygen.

Price doesn't include:

  • Breakfast on the first day and lunch in Aguas Calientes on the last day.
  • Transportation from La Playa to the city of Santa Teresa
  • Thermal baths in Santa Teresa (optional)
  • Thermal baths in Aguas Calientes (optional)
  • The descent by bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes (or about 1 hour of descent on foot)
  • Sleeping bag (If you don't have one, you can rent one)

We will leave Cusco at 5:30 am and we will take the direction of Marcoccasa (3400m/11154f), after the village of Mollepata (3000 m/9843f). In Marcoccasa we will meet the muleteers and the rest of the group before starting the trek. We will start the circuit in a beautiful valley, surrounded by mountains like Humantay (5217m/17116f) and Salkantay (6264m/20551f). Our camping site will be in Soraypampa (3700m/12139f).

After breakfast, we will go to the Salkantay pass (4600m/15092f) which offers a magnificent view of the Salkantay. Then we will descend and have time to enjoy the vegetation. Our camping site will be at Rayampata (3000m, in the rain forest.

  • Walking time : 8 to 9 hours
  • Climate : hot with mosquitoes

The third day will be devoted to the flora of the region. It is a spectacular descent that we will undertake through the forest still misty and where grows a luxuriant vegetation. This is an opportunity to identify some species of Orquidae, Bromeliads or Bomareas. We will visit some local families in Wiñaypoco (2650m) and in La Playa (2100m), where we will camp.

  • Walking time : 6 hours
  • Climate: hot during the day with mosquitoes and cold at night
  • Note: if the group wishes, it is possible to change the itinerary a little in order to enjoy the thermal baths in Santa Theresa, to relax.

This morning we will follow the circuit to the archaeological site of Llactapata (2650m/8694f). From here we will have a magnificent view of the Machu Picchu mountain. Then, we will continue to the hydroelectric station (1950m/6398f). Here we will take the train to the city of Aguas Calientes (2050m/6726f), where we will spend the night.

  • Climate : hot with mosquitoes

We will leave our hotel at 5:30 am and will leave towards Machu Picchu (2400m/7874f) by tourist bus. We will arrive at the Inca city at 06h00. After a two hour guided tour with explanations of the history and culture of the Incas, you will have free time to explore the site and Huaynu Picchu (2750m/9022f). We will leave Aguas Calientes by train at 2:55pm or 6:45pm. Until the departure of the train, you will have free time to relax or visit the thermal baths of Aguas Calientes.
