Iquitos Extension Tour

This package is designed for travelers with little time but determined to go deep into the jungle and live unforgettable experiences. In just a few days, you will be able to hike, navigate the Amazon River and observe a great variety of flora and fauna. At the end of each day, you will enjoy the sunsets that only the Amazon can offer. You can visit us all year round, the only difference is the water level of the rivers. Each season has its own charm: when it is waning (July-October) we take longer walks; there are white sandy beaches in the Amazon and fishing is easier. When it is half moon (December-May), trips are made by canoe, which allows a better observation of the animals near the treetops.

Breakfast with local fruits. Then continue with excursions on the Amazon River, where you will experience the most magical moment of your trip, swimming in the river where the pink and gray dolphins live. They are often seen, but don't expect to touch them. On the way back to the lodge you will see the largest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia, and it is also easy to see iguanas. This is an area with many birds, a favorite haunt of the "hoatzin" or shansho bird. This colorful bird resembles a prehistoric bird, as it has three claws on the central joint of the wing. Lunch and excursion by boat or canoe on the Jorge Caño River in search of different types of monkeys, especially the howler monkey. On the way back, we will spend the afternoon with the friendly inhabitants of the jungle in San Juan de Yanayacu. The visit is very spontaneous, sometimes travelers play soccer with them or just stroll around the village. Later, dinner and then a canoe ride, to feel the sounds more closely.

  • Shared boat for the group
  • Shared Spanish-speaking guide
  • Tickets in the Amazon
  • Lunch and dinner
  • Overnight at Muyuna Lodge in Iquitos.

Return to the lodge for lunch and then continue with excursions to the Corriente and Purura lagoons, where you can fish for different species, including the famous piranha. Dinner and, later, night walk in search of toads and huge frogs, the favorite food of the anacondas. You will also see several species of tarantulas. At the end of the walk you will return to the lodge.
