Manu National Park Excursion

We will depart early from Cusco in private vehicles, exploring inter-Andean valleys, picturesque communities, and discovering pre-Inca tombs until we reach Paucartambo, a charming colonial town with a fascinating museum.

Next, we’ll have lunch en route and continue to the Cloud Forest, home to endemic species such as the spectacled bear and the cock-of-the-rock, as well as orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. We’ll observe nature as we head to our lodge: Orquídeas de San Pedro Lodge, where we will spend our first night comfortably before getting closer to the Manu Reserve and the Amazon jungle.

Very early, we will board our boat and head to Collpa, a clay wall near the Alto Madre de Dios River where various parrots, such as the blue-headed parrot, the white-eyed parrot, and possibly the maracanã macaw, come each morning to supplement their diet with minerals and salts. After this activity, we will return to Erika Lodge for breakfast.

After breakfast, we will depart again and reach Machuwasi Lagoon, where we will quietly paddle in a catamaran to observe birds such as the prehistoric hoatzin and, with a bit of luck, caimans, monkeys, and capybaras.

In the afternoon, we will take a walk along another trail where we will visit the Ceiba, one of the largest and oldest Amazonian species on the planet.
