We will depart from the city of Cusco, heading towards Cachora (2903 m). Upon arrival, we will meet our support staff (cook, muleteers) and organize the equipment. On this day, we will walk through stunning landscapes and reach the Capuliyoc viewpoint (2885 m), where we will enjoy a magnificent view of the Apurímac Canyon. We will descend to Chiquisca, where we will have our lunch.
We will then continue through Playa Rosalinas (1500 m), the lowest point of the route, where we will cross the Apurímac River. After that, we will encounter a steep ascent, where agriculture is nearly impossible, but locals utilize some water streams to cultivate sugarcane and produce CAMBRAY (a sugarcane-based beverage). We will arrive at Santa Rosa (1914 m), our first campsite.
Cusco (3330 m) – Cachora (2900 m) – Santa Rosa (1900 m)
After a healthy breakfast, we will begin our hike towards the community of Marampata (2870 m), from where we will have a view of the Choquequirao archaeological complex. Upon arrival, we will set up and store our belongings before starting our walk to Choquequirao. After nearly 2 hours, we will reach the archaeological site at 3100 m.
We will have plenty of time to explore Choquequirao and its surroundings, including the recently discovered areas. After lunch, we will continue visiting the lower area, which includes cultivation terraces, water channels, and storage rooms. In the afternoon, we will return to Marampata for our campsite.
Santa Rosa (1900 m) – Choquequirao (3100 m) – Marampata (2850 m)
We will take the same route back to Playa Rosalinas, where we will enjoy lunch and a rest to regain energy. Afterward, we will hike to the Chiquisca campsite (1900 m), where we will spend the night.
You will have time to enjoy stunning views of the deep canyons and perhaps the chance to see a Andean Condor (the largest flying bird in the world).
Marampata (2850 m) – Playa Rosalinas (1750 m) – Chiquisca (1900 m)
After an early breakfast, we will prepare to return to Cusco. It will be a four-hour uphill hike to the end of the trek, where we will enjoy a final lunch with the guide, support staff (porters), and muleteers.
On the way back to Cusco, you will have the option to visit the Sayhuite archaeological site; a ceremonial center where water was worshipped, and it was likely a “training” center where Inca hydraulic engineers learned various engineering options for coastal and highland conditions. Additionally, you will see the Sayhuite Stone, a model of the Inca cosmic world associated with water, land fertility, and the forces involved in their existence.
For approximately three more hours on our private transport, we will pass through Curahuasi, known for its famous tea and anise cultivation. Finally, we will arrive in Cusco around 6 pm and drop you off at your hotel.
