This trek perfectly combines cultural and natural beauty. We will enjoy the challenge offered by the ecosystem and the magnificent view of Mount Salkantay (20,549 ft), considered the most prominent peak of the Vilcabamba range. The trek transports us back to the Inca era and connects us with the spirits of mountains like Tucarhuay and Humantay, which reach heights of over 16,400 ft.

Cusco - Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa

We will depart from Cusco at 5:00 am and head towards Challacancha (3400 m), passing through the town of Mollepata (3000 m). In Challacancha, we will meet the horsemen and the rest of the group, and begin our hike.

We will start the hike within a magnificent valley, surrounded by major snow-capped peaks such as Humantay (5217 m) and Salkantay (6264 m). Our camp will be at Soraypampa (3900 m), and in the afternoon, we can visit Humantay Lake on an additional hike.

Optional: After lunch in Soraypampa, we recommend hiking to Humantay Lake, where you can discover the beautiful views of this glacial lake and the Humantay snow-capped peak.

Soraypampa – Paso Salkantay – Collpapampa

After breakfast, we will head towards Salkantay Pass (4600 m), which offers an incredible view of the Salkantay snow-capped peak (6264 m). After enjoying the scenery, we will descend to our camp while continuing to observe the increasing vegetation of the ecosystem. Our camp will be located in Collpapampa (3000 m), in the midst of the tropical forest with warm weather and mosquitoes.

Collpapampa – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes

After an early breakfast, we will descend through a forest where you can find a variety of flowers such as orchids, bromeliads, bomareas, etc. We will also meet some families in Wiñaypoco (2650 m) and Granadilla (2100 m), where we will take our vehicle to Hydroelectric, where we will have lunch.

From there, we will continue walking to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night at a lodge.

Collpapampa (3000 m) - Hydroelectric - Aguas Calientes (2050 m)

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Our great day has finally arrived. After all our effort on the hike, we are finally rewarded with a visit to the magnificent city of Machu Picchu. We will leave the hotel to catch the bus at 5:30 in the morning and arrive at our destination at dawn.

There, our guide will tell us about Inca life while showing us the main attractions: temples, altars, residences, and work areas. After this visit, we will have a better understanding of Inca culture and life. When finished, we will take the bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will have time to have lunch and say goodbye to the place. Finally, we will take the train in the afternoon that will take us back to the city of Cusco.
