The house of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega is very important in the city of Cusco, as it is one of the important colonial houses in the historic center. This property belonged to the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega son of the Spanish captain Garcilaso de la Vega y Vargas and his mother the Cusco princess Chimpu Ocllo.

When the Spaniards arrived and invaded the Inca city, Francisco Pizarro decided to distribute the plots and in one of the plots was built what would become the House of Garcilaso, this character was born and lived there (XVI century).

In 1972 the building was declared a Historic Monument of Peru for being within the Monumental Zone of Cusco, also for being within the historic center of the city the UNESCO declared it as Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Peruvian Historical Monument.

As I mentioned at the beginning, every Inca construction in the historical center was divided by the Spaniards and the first owner of this place was Francisco de Oñate, then in 1560 it belonged to the Spanish conqueror Sebastián Garcilaso de la Vega y Vargas; there he resided with his wife the Inca princess Isabel Chimpu Ocllo and his son the written Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

In 1967 the Peruvian state decided to expropriate the house to be used as the headquarters of the Regional Historical Museum, as we know this house was built on an Inca platform, because most of the buildings that exist in the city of Cusco were built on Inca constructions.
