Among all the Inca buildings found in Machu Picchu, today we will focus on the House of the High Priest, there is not much information, however, if you are in the archaeological city you must visit it.

This house still maintains its structure, its walls are finely carved and as in all Inca infrastructure is several niches where they placed gold objects, or their deities; according to some investigations indicate that this house and the precious stone ornaments that were found could be related to the ceremonies that took place in the Main Temple.

Also, inside you can see a seat carved in stone and was occupied by the priest, you will also notice that it has two entrance doors in the direction of the square. All these Inca constructions are still preserved because the Spaniards did not reach this sacred place.

Where is the High Priest's house located?

It is located in front of the Main Temple in the so-called Sacred Square and the Temple of the Three Windows and behind their house there are steps leading to the Intihuatana (sundial).

Who was the High Priest?

Actually there is not much information, but according to some data point out that the place functioned as a sacristy, was who directed the religious acts that is why it is located in a very important of Machu Picchu.

Finally, this site was named the House of the Priest by the discoverer of Machu Picchu Hiram Bingham, because he believed that from this point the high priest could direct the religious acts that took place in the Sacred Plaza.
