Construction style of Colca Churches

The temples and churches of the Colca are composed by colonial constructions of unique characteristics that you can appreciate when visiting. You can recognize the different styles in architecture that they have, such as the mestizo baroque, romantic and neoclassical.

Temple of the Holy Magi and Our Lady of Bethlehem

The Temple of the Holy Retes Magos and Our Lady of Bethlehem has an atrium enclosed by a stone wall, a cover framed by two columns and other parts that complete the building. It is located to the south side of the Main Square of the district of Achoma, province of Caylloma in Arequipa.

San Pedro Alcántara Church

The San Pedro de Alcantara Church is located in the district of Cabanaconde, province of Caylloma in Arequipa.

It was built in the colonial era, which stands out for showing the neoclassical style in the part of its facade, the barrel vault ceiling, the cover protected by a high arch shelter and in the part of the bell tower is formed by reliefs with details of celestial elements. In its interior it exhibits a collection of canvases of the Cusquenian School, which contains the coronation of the virgin and the image of Christ of the XVIII century.

San Sebastian Temple

The Sebastián de Pinchollo Temple is located on the southwest side of the Main Square of the district of Cabanacon, province of Chivay in Arequipa.

This temple consists of a single tower, rectangular silver, a long nave, our bell tower surrounded by windows, the sober cover contains reliefs along with murals and other details that make it part of the cultural heritage.

Santiago Apostle Temple

The Temple Santiago Apostle of Madrigal is located in the district of the same name, in the province of Caylloma in Arequipa. This monument stands out for being built by the use of rustic stone, ashlar with lime montero and the side walls of mud montero.

In the building presents a tower with four bells, in the facade stands out a marked of Renaissance style where a mural that represents the image of Santiago de Matamoros is distinguished. In addition, in the internal part you will be able to observe a high altar of baroque tendency, variety of Cusquenian paintings, a lump of San Judas Tadeo and a wooden horse that takes in the loin the tutelary image of the church.

Temple of Canocota

This temple is located in the district of Chivay, province of Caylloma in Arequipa. In the architectural part it stands out for having a barrel vault with lanterns, square towers that are ahead of the facade and in the internal decoration is observed a series of altarpieces of the eighteenth century neoclassical trend.

Temple of Caylloma

This religious monument dates from 1847 and is located in the Main Square of the district of Caylloma, province of the same name, in Arequipa.

The Temple of Caylloma is colorful, the entrance welcomes you with an arch with decorative details, has a tower that gives the colonial value and is a space that houses many faithful because it is perfect to celebrate the most important festivals of the place.

Temple of the Virgin of the Assumption

The Temple of the Assumption of Our Lady of Chivay belongs to the district of the same name, in the province of Caylloma in Arequipa. It is part of the colonial era of the eighteenth century, contains a single nave, crowned with a barrel vault, square towers, with an entrance of mysterious atmosphere, in the ornamental part is the sculptures, neoclassical altarpieces and mural painting.

Santiago Apostle Temple

The Santiago Apostle Temple of Coporaque was built in the sixteenth century, is one of the oldest in the Colca Valley and is located in the district of Coporaque, province of Caylloma in Arequipa.

This cultural monument conforms the open chapel that served as a fundamental space for the evangelization of the valley of the Collaguas, in the time of the viceroyalty of Peru. In the structural part stands out the use of stone and mud montero, likewise, inside the temple you can appreciate a set of neoclassical altarpieces.

San Juan Bautista Temple

This catholic temple is located near the Main Square of the district of Yanahuara. The construction of style of the religious monument was made entirely with the use of ashlar in the mid-eighteenth century (ended in 1750), has a facade of mestizo baroque style with impressive beauty and fine finish. In the inner part there is a vaulted room with murals representing the baptism of Jesus and the altar of the Virgin of the Rosary.

Temple of the Immaculate Conception

The Temple of the Immaculate Conception is of romantic style, named as the Cathedral of Colca because it has large dimensions in infrastructure, contains a very particular dome among the other temples that are in the Colca Valley. This impressive monument is in the district of Lari, in the province of Caylloma in Arequipa.

Temple of the Holy Spirit

It is of mestizo architecture that was built with ashlar in the year 1739, it is in the district of Lluta, in the province of Cayllona, in Arequipa.

Santa Ana Temple

The Colonial Temple of Santa Ana is located in the Main Square of the district of Maca, province of Caylloma in Arequipa. It was built in 1760.

It is of romantic style with mestizo domain, is surrounded by a wall of ashlar, shows the beauty of its facade decorated with arches, exhibits a square plant that in its summit is visualized the presence of capulines, has towers built in different periods and inside it shows a high choir.

Santiago Apostle Temple

The Santiago Apostle Temple of Huanca has only one floor with a tower of original design, at the entrance there is a portal with an arch and two columns on the sides with colonial details. It is located in the Main Square of the district of Huanca, province of Caylloma in Arequipa.

Temple of the Holy Cross

It is a colonial temple of the XVIII century, located to the north of the Main Square of the district of Tuti, in the province of Caylloma, in Areqeuipa. It has a structure of not so big dimensions, in the entrance there is a Roman arch and in the internal part it highlights a set of religious pieces like the canvases, altarpieces next to some sculptures that attract the view of the visit.
