  • OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES: You can arrive from the city of Cusco by taking a bus to Ollantaytambo, then boarding a train that will finally take you to Ollantaytambo. This is the fastest and most comfortable option to get there, you can book your train tickets through the website of INCA RAIL or PERU RAIL. 
  • HYDROELECTRIC - AGUAS CALIENTES: You can get to Aguas Calientes by bus service to Santa Teresa and then you have the option of taking a train to Aguas Calientes or walking along the train tracks in a journey that takes about 3 hours.
  • POROY - AGUAS CALIENTES: From Poroy station you can take the Expedition or Vistadome train service of Peru Rail that will take you to the town of Aguas Calientes.
  • SAN PEDRO - AGUAS CALIENTES: From San Pedro Station to Aguas Calientes Station can be reached by Perurail's Vistadome and Expedition train services.

How long does it take to get to Machu Picchu from Cusco?

  • CUSCO - OLLANTAYTAMBO: The journey from Cusco to Ollantaytambo station which is 79 km away, this first part of the journey is done by car or bus and takes about 2 hours approx.
  • OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES STATION: from Ollantaytambo station, the trains leave with different schedules, it is advisable to organize the transfers from Cusco to the station to arrive 30 minutes before the boarding of your train. The total travel time is almost 2 hrs.

The total trip takes about 4 hours from the city of Cusco, taking the train from Ollantaytambo station.

  • SAN PEDRO - AGUAS CALIENTES STATION: This trip departs from the city of Cusco and takes approximately 5 hours.
  • POROY - AGUAS CALIENTES STATION: From Poroy station, the trip takes approximately 3.5 hours.

  • The weather in the town of Aguas Calientes is hot and humid, so it is advisable to bring light clothing and light jackets to wear during the night.
  • Being a jungle brow area, don't forget to bring mosquito repellent, as they can be a nuisance.
  • This is a mostly tourist town, therefore most of the establishments accept credit cards, but it is always advisable to carry cash in the local currency (soles).
  • If you plan to stay a few days in this town, make your hotel and train reservations well in advance to avoid any setbacks.
