Before telling you what we can find, we must understand what Sacyamarca means, at first it was given the name "pampa de cedro" named by Hiram Bingham, because at that time in the place there was too much cedar, however, later the researcher Paúl Fejos named it as Sayacmarca which means "unreachable town"; it is because of the geographical situation.
This was a brief summary of this tourist attraction, Sayacmarca was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1915 when he was exploring Machu Picchu, at that time the complex was surrounded by cedar so he decided to name it "Pampa de cedros".
What we can see in this incredible site are the enclosures that were built on the edge of the precipice of the mountain being one of the great Inca architectural feats, and even their buildings do not end in rooms, also have canals, squares and fountains that border the place.
Because of this, researchers believe that Sayacmarca had a ceremonial, astronomical purpose, it was practically sacred, therefore its constructions were made in the highest area, also this would hinder the access of the enemy because it has a single entrance and exit which would hinder the easy entry of an invader.
In short, there is no precise data on the site, there are only indications of what the investigators were able to see and find, which is why some of the data may be modified according to the data found.
Sayacmarca is located over 3,600 m above sea level, between the Urubamba and Aobamba valleys, near the Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary.
To know Sayacmarca we recommend you to do the 4-day Inca Trail tour, this is one of the most exciting trekking that leads you to the citadel of Machu Picchu, during the tour you can see all the paradisiacal nature, the surrounding mountain ranges, lakes, forests, flora, wildlife and more.
