We will pick you up from your hotel in our private vehicle, to go to Km 82. During the trip we will have a stop to use the services or make the last purchases. Then it will take us about an hour and a half to Piscacucho, where our excursion will begin. We will meet our camping team, cooks, porters and helpers, who will carry the necessary camping material and fresh food for the 4 days of trekking. After passing the official control of the Inca Trail, we cross the bridge and begin our hike with a gentle ascent. The first part of the trail is easy, where we will pass through a forest of cactus and native bushes. After a few hours we arrive at the Inca village of Llactapata (Pueblo de Terrazas). The system of terraces was used during Inca times for the cultivation of corn, quinoa and other cereals, prestigious crops in the highlands. After a short rest, we continue for another 15 minutes to have lunch at the site of Tayaroc. After lunch, we continue our hike for approximately 3 hours until we reach the village of Wayllabamba, our campsite and where we have dinner.
After breakfast, we start a gradual climb through forests, bushes and next to a stream. Today is the day when we will have our biggest challenge which is to summit, the major pass is at 4,200 meters, but we will have plenty of time to enjoy and delight in this extraordinary landscape, part of this includes an ancient Inca staircase made of stone. We will ascend steeply uphill through the Corralpunku Valley to the Llulluchayoc Zone, where some species of birds can be seen. With luck, we will see small hummingbirds, falcons, torso-black buzzards, eagles, and suddenly we might see the king of the heights, the Condor, highly respected and revered in Andean villages. From here, you will be able to see the highest peak, which is called the Warmiwañusca Pass (The Pass of the Dead Woman). We will then continue our excursion for 2 more hours to reach the Warmiwañusca Pass (4250m). When our entire group reaches the summit, we will take a short rest before starting our descent to the Pacaymayo Valley, all downhill to reach our campsite for tonight. This site has an incredible view over the valley, a waterfall on the left side and snow-capped peaks. We will find our camp ready for a well deserved rest, then time for lunch, tea and a delicious dinner.
After an energetic breakfast we start the hike to ascend to the second most important pass of the route at 3,800 m.a.s.l. during the journey we will enjoy a guided visit to the archaeological site of Runkurakay where again we find important vestiges of the Inca Culture, we continue to Sayacmarca where we have the guided tour by your guide and continuing we arrive to Chaquicocha, place where we have lunch. Later we continue walking and observing how the geography is changing from dry and mountainous aspect to tropical green, in this journey we find Phuyupatamarca (town in the clouds), another important archaeological monument after another short walk we arrive to the last camp in Wiñaywayna, where after dinner, we will spend the night.
We will wake up very early around 4:00 am to go to the Intipunku (The Sun Gate), so we can appreciate the first rays of sunlight over this Inca sanctuary. This last hike will take 1 to 2 hours. From Intipunku (the Sun Gate), an easy 50 minute descent to the citadel itself, the first steps take us to the upper southern sector of Machupicchu (the Guardian's houses). The trail ends with a series of terraces, which present classic views of the entire citadel. After enjoying these panoramic views, we have to walk down to the entrance of Machu Picchu to check in. A few minutes later, we re-enter to continue exploring this magical site, for about 2 hours, during which we will visit the most important places of the citadel, with explanations from expert guides. Once the guided tour is over, we will have some time to take pictures of the sacred precinct. Then we leave to board the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes, and then go to the train station to go to Poroy, where we will be waiting for you and transfer to your hotel in Cusco. Alternative visit (to be arranged in advance): Entrance to the Huaynapicchu mountain.
