Very early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in our transportation. We will then head to the Anta plains. Before descending into the Limatambo Valley, we will have the opportunity to observe part of the Vilcabamba mountain range, which includes the Salkantay Apu (6250 m), along with the Humantay (5690 m) and Palcoyo (5250 m) mountains.
Our vehicle will stop to take some photos of the mountains and the Limatambo Valley, which we will descend, before ascending to the town of Curahuasi, known for its cultivation of anise and sugarcane. Next, we will head to the Sayhuite archaeological site, where we will visit the site. The Incas carved various animal shapes, birds, terraces, and irrigation channels into a stone. Our guide will be happy to provide all the information, and there are also water fountains, stairs, and other features to explore.
We will then continue our journey to the town of San Pedro de Cachora and proceed to Capuliyoc (2970 m), where we will be greeted by our Tierras de los Andes team, our muleteers who will assist with our luggage. We will have lunch here and then prepare to begin our hike. After just 5 minutes, we will stop at the viewpoint.
From this point, we will enjoy views of our trekking route, and with good eyesight, we may be able to spot the Choquequirao archaeological complex in the distance. We will also have an impressive view of the Apurímac Canyon (1500 m deep from where we are) and, if we are lucky, we might see a condor (king of the Andean sky) flying nearby. On the other side of the river are the snow-capped mountains of Padreyoc (5771 m) and Qoriwayrachina (4900 m). After taking our well-deserved photos, we will begin our 4-hour descent to Chiquisca (1900 m), where we will spend the night in a local resident's house. The owner has a sugarcane plantation from which they make sugarcane chicha and grows mazasamba (soursop), a local fruit.
The house owner will prepare dinner. Rest for the night.
Cusco (3350 m) – Capuliyoc (2970 m) – Chiquisca (1900 m)
This day, we will wake up very early to start our day by visiting Choquequirao, where we can enjoy a sunrise at the younger sister of Machu Picchu. After this, we will have our well-deserved breakfast and then head to explore the Lost City of Choquequirao (meaning "Cradle of Gold" in Quechua). Our guide will take us to visit the most beautiful parts of this extensive archaeological site, covered in lush vegetation with flowers such as orchids, bromeliads, mosses, lichens, and many trees, where we might see some birds. This place was built by the Incas at the end of their reign and also served as a stronghold against the Spanish.
One of the most beautiful and unique terraces features the depiction of the Andean camelid (the llama), a site that we should not miss. After completing the visit at sunset, we will return to Marampata for dinner and spend the night.
Marampata (2900 m) – Choquequirao (3033 m) – Marampata (2900 m)
We will start with a cup of coca tea and then have breakfast to prepare for our hike. We will begin to descend via the same route we came. We will pass through Santa Rosa, where we will have lunch and take a necessary rest, before continuing our descent to the Apurímac River, known as Playa Rosalinas.
We will continue our uphill hike until we reach Chiquisca, where we will spend the night in a local resident’s house.
The house owner will prepare a comforting dinner for us.
Marampata (2900 m) – Chiquisca (1900 m)
On this day, we will have our coca tea and breakfast very early in the morning to start our journey and avoid the heat of the canyon as we head to the Capuliyoc viewpoint. At this point, our guide will hold a small ceremony to thank the Andean world for all the fabulous views each site we visited has offered us, and for allowing us to go and return without any problems along the way. We will say goodbye to the muleteer team who have graciously accompanied us on our trip.
Our transportation will be waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel, marking the end of our services.
