Maybe you wondered what else I can know about this beautiful city of Arequipa! Let me tell you that the White City has many places to know, for example we can visit the Centro de Artesanías Fundo El Fierro, perfect to take the best souvenirs.

The Craft Center with the passage of time shares space with the Municipal Historical Museum "Guillermo Zegarra Meneses" and is now an Art Association Producers Fundo El Fierro is sold in this place different textiles, seeds, wrought iron and more.

The artisans of Fundo El Fierro have been doing this fair for more than 40 years, but due to the sanitary situation - Covid 19 that the world experienced, the artisans had to suspend any activity, however, last year they were able to realize this tradition.

But, let's know a little of its history, how this place began. The Fundo Fierro is so named because in the beginning it belonged to Jorge Antonio del Fierro, he decided to give part of his property to the school of Educandas being the founder Jorge Antonio del Fierro.

This gentleman asked the king of 1803 to grant him permission to hand over the property, which was accepted and on February 11, 1931, by means of a will, this property was legalized as belonging to the school of the Educandas.

However, due to the national public situation, this place will house the inmates of the public jail in 1891, but it was provisional until the construction of the building that is currently the men's jail is completed.

There are some records, which indicate that the place was rented on several occasions in the 1940s and even a mechanical workshop was installed in the 60s and 70s. After some time the facilities were abandoned and uninhabited, so it had to be passed to another owner of the Departmental Corporation of Development of Arequipa according to law 23339 in 1981.

Then it passed to the Regional Government of Arequipa just for some modifications that were made, and as I mentioned in the place you will find the Municipal Historical Museum "Guillermo Zegarra Meneses" and the Association of Artisans Producers Fundo El Fierro.
